MLB EVENTS: Games, Schedule, Tickets and more...

Major League Baseball (MLB) is one of the oldest four sports leagues in North America. The League was formed in 1903. Maybe this is why few sports are as classically, iconically American than baseball. Although it’s a game that is played around the world—especially in places like Central America—it is synonymous with leisure time on this part of the globe. For many, there is a nostalgia attached to every aspect of the game...

The refreshments of the affair—from hotdogs to Cracker Jacks to beers—are unmistakable. The little traditions—such as singing along to “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” and seeking mis-thrown balls—are second nature. For a further testament to the impact of baseball on Americans, look at the card-collecting industry or see the popular movies about the game, such as “A League of Their Own,” “The Pride of the Yankees,” and “42”. In fact, as highlighted in “42,” baseball has been a funnel through which to see major cultural and social realities in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Despite its place as a pop culture phenomenon and a delightfully classic game, not everyone knows a lot about the MLB. It is composed of the American League (AL) and the National League (NL). The two leagues are independent organizations, but after the “baseball war,” they have cross paths at an increasing rate. To celebrate, one of the biggest competitions—the World Series—was created. Yearly winners in each league compete to become national champions, overseen by the National Commission and eventually single commissioner in 1921. Some popular NLs include the New York Mets, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis Cardinals, and San Francisco Giants. Some popular ALs include the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, and Cleveland Indians.

Baseball is a game that requires a bat, ball, and gloves. On a diamond, two teams of nine players alternative between batters, which is the offense, and fielders, which is the defense. On offense, batters seek to hit the ball without the opponents intersecting, in hopes to run all the way around the diamond while the defense chases the ball, hoping to return it to home base. After nine innings, the team with the most innings, or times at bat, wins the game. Perhaps it is strange that such an affair has had such an impact on entertainment and past-times. If you are looking to watch some baseball games from the MLB, do not miss out on the tickets. High-rivalry game tickets are incredibly lucrative, but every game will have that familiar feel that you remember from your first game.
