David Koechner
David Koechner is a stand-up comedian, actor, and musician. Born in Tipton, Missouri, he studied at Benedictine College and the University of Missouri, before moving to Chicago to pursue a career in improvisational comedy.
He began to study improvisational comedy at the ImprovOlympic under the guidance of Del Close, after which he joined the Second City Northwest comedy troupe and graduated in 1994.
Career and Accomplishments
Koechner acquired a year-long stint in 1995 with Saturday Night Live, which he joined with fellow comedians Adam McKay and Nancy Walls. While performing at SNL, he became close to David Allen and Will Ferrell.
The comedian is also known for his impressions. Some of the celebrities he has impersonated include Mike Ditka, Christian Elliott, Robert Shapiro, Charlie Sheen, Oliver Stone, Willard Scott, David Kaczynski, Phil Gramm, and Pat Buchanan.
After performing on SNL for one season, he became a part of the 1996-97 sketch cast of Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Koechner formed a partnership with his Saturday Night Live colleague, David "Gruber" Allen, on the set of Dill Scallion, the 1999 country music mockumentary.
Together, they collaborated on The Naked Trucker Show, which was Allen's improvisational comedy act. Koechner played the role of a sports reporter in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
The comedian has played small parts in movies such as The Dukes of Hazzard, Talladega Nights, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, and Snakes on a Plane. That very year, he played the role of a gun lobbyist in Thank You for Smoking.
Koechner played the lead character in the comedy film, The Comebacks, in 2007. Comedy Central released The Naked Trucker and T-Bones Show in January of 2007. It was a comedy series that starred Dave "Gruber" Allen and Koechner.
The first album created by Koechner and Allen, named Naked Trucker and T-Bones Live at the Troubadour, was released in March of 2007. He starred with Luke Wilson in Tenure, a comedy that came out in 2009, and played the lead role in the horror movie, Piranha 3DD.
Since 2015, Koechner has been appearing in Another Period, a Comedy Central series, where he portrays the character of Commodore Bellacourt. He also plays the recurring role of Bill Lewis on the sitcom titled The Goldbergs.
Koechner performs at comedy clubs such as Improv Olympic, Flappers Comedy Club, Largo, and West Theater.
