Dear Soldier Boy

Dear Soldier Boy is a musical comedy by Martha Bolton. It is a feel-good romantic comedy set against the backdrop of the 1990 Iraq war. Anna King is an Amish teenager who feels sad about the war and wants to do her bit to support American soldiers fighting in the Iraq war. She and her friend Sofia volunteer to write letters to the soldiers. Sofia wants to find herself a husband and considers this a good way to do so.

 The girls are confident that nothing can go wrong and that their families wouldn’t know about it. After all, the Amish and war don’t go hand in hand. However, things get messy when Anne’s three pen pals get a weekend pass to surprise the girls and meet them. The three men (soldiers) arrive at Fern’s Cheese Shop, where Anne and Sofia work.

What’s more, they intend to propose marriage as they think the letters are more than a noble deed. The sudden development puts Anne in a spot. She cannot afford for her father to find out the truth. Also, she has to decide if she loves either of the men to accept the proposal. How Anne deals with the unexpected mess forms the plot of this highly entertaining and humorous musical.
