Geoffrey Asmus
Geoffrey Asmus is the only other white man who has a sense of humor. That's what he's calling his new stand-up special, at least. Asmus was born and raised in Minnesota but now lives in New York. His first comedy special at Sisyphus Brewing is shot in his home state.
Geoffrey Asmus, who went to the University of Wisconsin, is on the cutting edge of this classic medium. After five hard rounds and a lot of nerves, he won Madison's Funniest Comic open mic competition at the Comedy Club on State.
Career
Geoffrey Asmus grew up in the Twin Cities. He started doing comedy to avoid serious conversations and make up for not having many neighbors when he was young. He went to UW and got degrees in history, religious studies, and Asian culture. In high school, he was called "has them all fooled."
But Asmus started doing stand-up comedy about two months before he graduated.
Two years later, Geoffrey Asmus has been to all of the open mic nights in bars all over the Isthmus. Geoffrey Asmus tries to write jokes daily, calling himself a "quantity over quality" joke writer, even though it can be hard to do a stand-up tour every week. He has been able to cut out the bad bits before big nights at the Comedy Club because he has so much material.
But despite the problems, Asmus won over the audience and the judges, who gave him the title of Madison's Funniest Comic. Asmus's success was probably due to his funny, weird humor that people could relate to. He made some football jokes about the Badgers and was able to name the capital of every country.
In a short time, Geoffrey won "Funniest Person in Madison 2015" from Comedy on State and "Funniest Person in Iowa 2015" from Penguin Comedy Club. Both times, he beat out Quentin, the guy who invented meth.
After that, FOX's "Laughs" and Kevin Hart's "LOL Network" featured Geoffrey, and he was selected as a "New Face" performer at Just For Laughs Montreal. He has also done shows at the Boston, Bridgetown, Limestone, and Laughing Skull comedy festivals. Geoffrey has also opened for Dave Attel, Aparna Nancherla, Brian Posehn, Daniel Sloss, Todd Barry, Alonzo Bodden, and others.
Geoffrey's first album, "Prodigal Little Bitch," came out in 2021. 800 lb Gorilla Records put it out. The album reached number one on iTunes and is played all over the country on SiriusXM.
