A Group of Lovely Characters
Lyle the Crocodile is based on the very popular story written by Bernard Waber, named Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile. It tells the tale of a friendly crocodile named Lyle, who one day finds himself in a bathtub within a posh New York City apartment in the Upper East Side.
Everyone in the building adores him, except Mr. Grumps, who hates many things. However, things take a good turn, and when Lyle ends up saving Mr. Grumps, the two become friends, reminding everyone that judging someone by their outer appearance is never right.
Where Representation Matters
GreatWorks Theatre Company was born as the Irish Repertory of Chicago’s educational programming arm. It got transformed into an individual company in 2005, with Matt O'Brien becoming the full-time Producing Director, a transition from being the Artistic Director of Irish Rep.
Ever since then, GreatWorks Theatre Company has been putting up shows for numerous students every year based on literature and social studies. The people performing at and directing these shows are some of the most talented and brilliant minds that Chicago has to offer.
The quality and commitment they bring to their performances are truly remarkable.
At GreatWorks Theatre Company, representation and diversity matter a lot, and the importance they place on these factors is reflected in the work they do.
They believe that whatever they portray should be so wonderfully diverse that everyone watching their productions should be able to see themselves in some way or the other in different characters.
Exploring and telling stories about different communities: bravery and compassion are two pillars that indeed matter to this company immensely. They are of the opinion that history has much to teach us, and it’s this history they aim to keep going back to in order to learn more and do better for future generations.
