Hasan Minhaj
Hasan Minhaj is an Indian-origin American writer, comedian, actor, producer, and political commentator. He is also a television personality. His Netflix show Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj has already won two Webby Awards and two Peabody Awards. Times Magazine has also listed Minhaj as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Minhaj started his career as a stand-up comedian but slowly gained prominence with his work on television. His first big break came when he became a senior correspondent for The Daily Show. He also became a speaker at the White House Correspondents Dinner. His first comedy special, Homecoming King, was very well received by the audience and the critics and fetched him his first Peabody Award.
Rise as Comedian and Social Commentator
Minhaj first became interested in comedy after he saw Chris Rock perform in Never Scared. He started enrolling in competitions and traveled extensively for them, most notably to San Francisco. He participated in the Best Comic Standing competition and opened for Pablo Francisco, Katt Williams, and Gabriel Iglesias. He later moved to Los Angeles to perform for Stand-Up for Diversity by NBC.
Minhaj started doing television regularly as well. He appeared in the sitcom “State of Georgia” and also starred in various roles like “Disaster Date on MTV." He also made a guest appearance on Arrested Development and Getting On.
Minhaj also performed at the Radio and Television Correspondents Dinner and became famous for his set, where he condemned the United States Congress for not passing gun control legislation.
He also did a show on Broadway that featured what immigrants faced in the US, and he drew inspiration from his own life as a second-generation Indian-American Muslim. When he started working on Patriot Act, he decided to explore the country's political, cultural, and economic landscape, and one of his notable episodes was about the student loan crisis.
Minhaj was also a part of the ensemble on Goatface, the Comedy Central special. He also played on the "Away" act at the All-Star Celebrity Game by NBA. He also played recurring on “The Morning Show” on Apple TV. He also appeared as one of the contestants on Celebrity Jeopardy.
