International Ballet Festival of Miami
The International Ballet Festival of Miami (IBFM) is one of the most prestigious and recognized dance festivals in the US.
It is the only dance event in Florida where locals and visitors can watch several famous dancers perform live in action in the same location.
Local, national, and international artists grace the stage each year to entertain the audience with a range of dance performances.
The Miami Hispanic Ballet Company is a non-profit organization set up in 1993. It works to identify and promote professional Hispanic dancers in Miami-Dade County.
The organization has actively produced many large-scale gala performances. The Annual International Ballet Festival of Miami is its best gala.
IBFM is a vast and ambitious project with a wide scope. There hasn't been a dance festival of this magnitude in South Florida.
Principal dancers, ballet companies, and international stars perform for millions of local audiences and tourists who visit the state to attend the events.
History and Awards
IFBM takes place in Miami from the last week of August to the mid of September. 20+ ballet companies and more than 100 principal dancers take part in the festival. The event includes dance-based art forms like films, paintings, workshops, book presentations, and masterclasses.
There's A Life for Dance, a Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented to the greatest personalities from the dance field. The award goes to a different person each year.
There's also a Criticism and Culture of Ballet award that's presented to the best and most respected dance critics from around the globe.
The Miami Hispanic Ballet Company received a grant from Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Council for the first time in 2011.
The one million dollars were invested in establishing the Miami Hispanic Cultural Arts Center. The organization also received the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge Grant Award in 2011.
The organization aims to promote talented dancers and support cultural diversity in the region. It believes equally in classical and contemporary dance forms and is particular about presenting quality dance to the audience.
