Jeremy Hotz
Born on May 31, 1965, Jeremy Hotz is a Canadian-American actor and comedian. Hotz's work on The Newsroom earned him a Gemini Award in 1997.
Career
In addition to the Laugh Factory, Jeremy Hotz is a big favorite at the Improv in Los Angeles. He is a citizen of both Canada and the United States.
Hotz's "confused but very smart" ways and the fact that he often makes up jokes on the spot draw people to him. He acts as if he is challenged by everyday life but can find humor in small mistakes.
He often starts a funny piece by saying how bad a place or thing is. For example, "I moved to Los Angeles. What a terrible place that is..." He is easy to spot because he always puts his right hand over his mouth to stop himself from laughing when he tells a joke, stands oddly, or complains about everyday things. Hotz also uses the audience or the city as a theme and often ties them to jokes that he makes up on the spot.
In 1997, Hotz won a Gemini Award for his part on the TV show The Newsroom. His performance in the film Married Life also earned him a nomination. Once upon a time, Jeremy Hotz had a comedy special on the Canadian Broadcasting Company's Comics! show titled "Whatever Happened to Jeremy Hotz?" in which he both authored and starred. For this project, he was nominated for a Gemini in the category "Best Writing in Comedy or Variety Show or Series." Hotz was nominated for a fourth Gemini and a 2006 Canadian Comedy Award for "Best Taped Live Performance" for a stand-up comedy show he did for Just for Laughs. The Sydney Comedy Festival just gave him the award for "Best International Performer."
Neither American nor Canadian television has eluded Jeremy so far. Jeremy was featured in the CBC Newsroom's offbeat comedy series in 1996. When CTV celebrated its fifth anniversary earlier this year, he was one of the three headlining acts at Roy Thomson Hall alongside Mike Bullard and Jon Stewart. He also appeared on CBC's 50th anniversary special and Made in Canada, a half-hour comedy show. Recent appearances include The Jeremy Hotz Special on Comedy Central and Half Hour Comedy Hour on MTV.
