Juston McKinney
Juston McKinney remembers his friends laughing at him in his junior high school library when he said he wanted to be a cop or a comedian. Years later, he can boast that he's done both.
Early Life
McKinney relocated from Portsmouth to Kittery, Maine, when he was in fifth grade. He went to Southern Maine Community College, which used to be called Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, after he graduated from high school. At 19, the York County Sheriff's Department hired him. A few years later, he started teaching elementary school students D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education). After telling students to stay away from drugs and follow their dreams, he realized he wanted to become a comedian.
Career
To begin his professional life, McKinney worked as a rural patrol officer in Maine. Franklin's The Middle Arts and Entertainment Center will be the location for his Saturday night stand-up performance.
He finally made up his mind to give up on the sheriff's department to build a stand-up comedy career in New York City. He decided to move to Boston to start a career as a comedian. For his rural patrol job, he drove back and forth to Maine. From here, he has never looked back.
McKinney has been on television many times. He had an hour-long special called "A Middle-Class Hole" on Comedy Central, which is now on DVD.
He said comedians like Tim Allen, Jerry Seinfeld, Roseanne Barr, and Drew Carey had their shows, but that was before reality television shows.
McKinney shared that he could sense that he was doing well when an agent who owned a comedy club in New York City insisted him to move there. After spending considerable time on the road, McKinney decided to settle in New Hampshire and raise his family there.
He has found ways to include his family in his acts while he is at home. He even made his music video called "The New Dad State of Mind," a parody of Jay Z's hit song "State of Mind."
McKinney said he writes his own stories, usually based on his wife and children. Even though many comedians use bad language and sexual jokes, McKinney tries not to use too many bad words because he performs for a wide range of people.
He agreed to the fact that making people laugh and making them happy constitutes his job, but it takes him considerable time to think of new things to keep the audience engrossed. He initially wanted everyone to like his acts, but now what he wants is he is not hated for what he does or his acts.
