Career
Madigan's first job was in print journalism. She worked for the Suburban Journals newspapers in St. Louis and the Missouri Athletic Club's publications department. At the same time, she did stand-up comedy at comedy clubs in the St. Louis area on "open mic" nights. She says that her father, Jack, was the one who encouraged her to try being a comedian.
Madigan quit her job in Missouri because she had dates booked for the next 30 weeks. She says that people like Ron White, Richard Jeni, and Lewis Black influenced her in the early days of comedy clubs. Soon as her popularity grew at these events, The Funny Bone (a chain of comedy clubs across the country) offered her a job as a stand-up comic.
