Matilda - The Musical
Matilda the Musical is a stage musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's 1988 novel with the same title. Matilda is the story of a five-year-old with a love for reading and a gift of telekinesis. We see her dealing with various issues at school and home and the role of her teacher in nurturing the little girl.
The Musical has a book by Dennis Kelly with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin. It received much acclaim from critics and audiences.
The Musical was first presented in a twelve-week trial run at the Courtyard Theater in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2010-2011 (Nov to Jan). It premiered at the West End in November 2011 and on Broadway in April 2013.
The West End version won seven categories at the Olivier Awards in 2012, while the Broadway version won five Tony Awards in 2013. Eleanor Worthington played Matilda at the West End and became the youngest artist to win an award.

The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) announced its intention to create a stage musical adaption of Matilda in 2009. Matthew Warchus was named the director, with Chris Nightingale as orchestrator and music supervisor.
Peter Darling choreographed the Musical, Paul Kieve worked on special effects as an illusionist, and Rob Howell designed the set. They created a magical setting for the young Matilda to bloom and enter a magical world.
Adrianna Bertola, Kerry Ingram, and Josie Griffiths played the lead role of Matilda. The Musical received many positive reviews from critics when it premiered in London. The Broadway version had Sophia Gennusa, Bailey Ryon, Oona Laurence, and Milly Shapiro as Matilda.
It continued to have England as the Musical's setting despite the pressure to Americanize the story for the local audience. The Broadway production ran from 2013 to 2017 with 1077 performances.
The Musical has two acts, with twelve songs in the first act and thirteen in the second. However, a few numbers were changed (added and removed) from the London and Broadway versions.The production company went on US, UK, and Ireland tours in 2015 and 2018.
