Michael Blackson
Michael Blackson is a comedian, actor, and philanthropist of Ghanaian and Liberian descent based in the United States of America. He grew up in New Jersey and later settled in Philadelphia. Blackson started doing comedy at a young age when one of his coworkers suggested he try his hand at open-mic shows.
Blackson’s popularity increased as word of his witty acts, and unique shows started spreading. Then he did a comedy sketch CD titled Modasucka: Welcome to America, which was quite well received. He also did several TV shows, like "30 Rock" and the HBO series "P. Diddy Presents: The Bad Boys of Comedy," He was also featured on Comedy Central and Martin Lawrence Presents 1st Amendment Stand-up on Starz.
Fame as Stand-up Comedian and Actor
Blackson returned to stand-up comedy whenever he could, as this was his first love. However, he tried his hands at various kinds of art forms. He appeared in a music video by Akon titled "Wakonda." He also did some very notable philanthropic work in the meantime by starting a school in his native country of Ghana.
Blackson started getting many offers in films and tried his hand at a diverse range of roles. Some of his earliest works are in movies like Lean on Me, Next Friday, and Repos. Although he started with smaller roles, he garnered more recognition because of his notable performances. Later, he was also seen in movies like The Last Stand and The Savages. Some of his other notable performances were in One Night in Vegas, Threading Needles, and In Sickness and in Health.
Blackson also appeared in prominent TV shows and became a regular in quite a few of them. His work in "50 Central" and "In the Cut" was well received. He also participated in quite a few talk shows, and comedy shows on TV, like "Walter Latham's Comedy After Dark", "Casting One Mo' Chance", "Leave it to Stevie", and "Showtime in Harlem", among others. He tried to do something different in all of them, and all noticed his versatility.
Blackson was very particular about the kind of comedy he wanted to do, and some of his acts also came with profound messages.
