Neal Brennan
Neal Brennan is an American writer, producer, podcaster, director, and, most importantly, a prolific comedian of Irish descent. He is known as the co-writer and co-creator of the series Chappelle’s Show for Comedy Central, along with Dave Chappelle. He also has a very successful comedy special, 3 Mics, which can be streamed on Netflix.
Brennan was drawn towards comedy even before he turned ten and used to perform for his classmates. He was inspired by Jerry Seinfeld and Richard Lewis. He used to watch many comedy shows on TV, and when his older brother became a comedian and writer, he used to spend his weekends attending his shows.
Rise as a Comedian and Other Achievements
Brennan met a lot of successful comedians like David Juskow, Mike Royce, and Dave Attell while he attended his brother’s shows at The Improv in New York. He later said that it was then he realized it was possible to do comedy professionally.
He gave his first performance at the age of 18, and although the first show did not go well and he did not do stand-up for five years after that, he came back stronger than ever later.
Brennan was part of the sketch-comedy variety show, All That and was also a part of the sitcom Kenan & Kel, and wrote for them. He was also nominated for three Emmy Awards for the phenomenal success of Chappelle’s Show, which became one of the top-rated programs on Comedy Central.
Brennan also started a podcast named The Champs with fellow comedian Moshe Kasher and DJ Douggpound. The podcast became a hit, and there were quite a few notable guests on the show, like Mario Joyner, Chris Rock, David Alan Grier, Blake Griffin, and Wayne Brady, among others. Another podcast that he started was "How Neal Feel," which was also very successful.
Another of Brennan’s achievements was that he developed the show 3 Mics, and although it was started in Los Angeles, he brought it later to New York City. The show had a unique format where he used three separate mics to read one-liners, talk about depression and parental relationships, and for doing conventional stand-up comedy. Netflix later picked it up for an original comedy special. His one-person show, Unacceptable, also opened in New York.
Neal Brennan has tried his hands at quite a few areas and has emerged successful in all of them. His comedy remains his greatest strength, and you must visit one of his live shows to enjoy his brand of humor.
