Nimesh Patel

Nimesh Patel is a stand-up comedian and a writer for television shows. He was born in 1986 in Parsippany-Troy Hills Township in New Jersey's Morris County. He comes from an Indian Gujarati family and follows Hinduism. He, too, identifies as a Hindu.

His parents moved to the United States of America from India during the 1970s. Patel's father was just 17 years old when he moved to Newark, New Jersey. Initially working as a cashier, he opened a liquor store in Irvington, Essex County, which was quite a troubled neighborhood.

Career and Achievements

Patel started attending New York University after his family shifted to New York City. While previously he lived in Hell's Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan, he resides in Brooklyn now. Although Patel's father was initially a pre-med student, Patel graduated with a Finance degree in 2008 from the New York University's Stern School of Business. After finishing his graduation, he took on a job during the day.

Patel performs regularly at a comedy club in Greenwich Village, Lower Manhattan, which is known as Comedy Cellar. He performed at The Stress Factory, doing stand-up comedy after his shifts.

Patel became a finalist for the Laugh Out Loud Network Pitch Panel at Just for Laughs ComedyPRO, created by Kevin Hart, in 2016. It was Chris Rock who discovered him when he was performing in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, back in 2015.

Soon after, he became a part of the team assembled by Chris Rock for the 88^th Academy Awards ceremony. He was also involved in the writing process for the 2017 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner appearance by comedian Hasan Minhaj.

Patel got employed as a full-time writer for Saturday Night Live in 2017. He would create jokes for Weekend Update, and he eventually received a nomination for an Emmy in the category of Outstanding Writing for his contributions to Saturday Night Live.

During one of his shows, Patel was discussing the Partition of India, and while performing the show, he stumbled upon a British member of the audience who started defending British colonial rule and the tyranny they imposed on India. This did not go well with Patel, who then called her out for her views and also the British or the Royal Family for stealing the Kohinoor from India.
