Upcoming Schedule for Baltimore Orioles

Baltimore Orioles: Game Schedule, Tickets and more...

Major League Baseball (MLB) is the premiere professional organization for baseball in North America. Its history is incredibly rich, because MLB is the oldest major professional sports league in the United States and Canada. Today, there are 15 teams in the National League (NL) and 15 teams in the American League (AL), comprising 30 total teams. The Baltimore Orioles were one of the original 8 charter teams in the AL, back in 1901...

Because the team has survived for over a century, it is bound to have an interesting past. Many Baltimore Orioles fans today do not know that the team was initially based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and called the Milwaukee Brewers. Just a year after, in 1902, the club made their way to St. Louis, Missouri and became the St. Louis Browns. The franchise stayed in St. Louis for a significant amount of time: 52 years. But in 1953, the Baltimore Orioles, as they are known today, began to take shape. The team – which did not see great success in St. Louis – were relocated to Baltimore by civic and business leaders in the area, and were named after Maryland’s state bird, the oriole.

Nicknamed the “O’s” and the “Birds,” the Baltimore Orioles franchise has been in Maryland since the ‘50s. In the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s, they saw arguably their most success, competing in World Series, and winning the ones in 1966, 1970, and 1983. A number of the team’s hall of famers were playing at this time, from Brooks Robinson to Jim Palmer to Cal Ripken Jr. The Baltimore Orioles have continued to be a strong competitor in MLB, winning 9 division championships (1969-1971, 1973-1974, 1979, 1983, 1997, and 2014) as well as six pennants (1966, 1969-1971, 1979, 1983), and a variety of other accolades.

Although the team experienced a rough path in the early 2000s, the Baltimore Orioles' overall record leans towards winning, which has welcomed in some fierce rivalries over the years. Their most present competition is with the Washington Nationals. The Baltimore Orioles are narrowly beating them with a 26-20 record. Their rivalry is reportedly due to close geographic proximity, with D.C. being fewer than 40 miles away from Baltimore. The Baltimore Orioles are currently in a period of regrowth. After some revamping, it is possible that new face-offs will emerge.

Today, the Baltimore Orioles compete out of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, where they have been since 1992. Obviously, due to the team’s long history, the franchise has called a number of venues home, including Memorial Stadium, where they spent much of their time in Baltimore. It is hard to know what owner Peter Angelos and managers Brandon Hyde and Mile Elias have planned for such a longstanding team. To see what is coming next for this longstanding team in MLB, grab tickets to their next game.
