FC Cincinnati: Game Schedule, Tickets and more...
When it comes to American professional soccer clubs, Ohio has some surprisingly sharp teams. Football Club Cincinnati is a well-known part of the franchise. Although FC Cincinnati was briefly known as a United Soccer League Team from 2016-2018, FC Cincinnati is now known as a part of Major League Soccer (MLS). The MLS team was officially founded in 2018, making them newcomers to the field. To learn more about FC Cincinnati – or Orange and Blue – keep reading...
Back in 2016 when MLS Commissioner Don Garber visited Cincinnati, he was impressed by the city’s promising prospects in sports entertainment. Meeting with club officials, noting the city’s fans, and touring Nippert Stadium, Cincinnati quickly made the shortlist of potential places to expand MLS.
Since joining the Eastern Conference, FC Cincinnati has begun to get their bearings. They have experienced some tough defeats from the start, but there are some promising parts of their gameplays, including Leo Bertone’s famous “world-class wonderstrike” against Seattle Sounders FC. Although still in the team’s early years, there have been significant hardships since joining MLS. One of these challenges has been a rapid turnover in head coaches. Originally, the team was guided by Alan Koch, but he stepped down after the start of the first season, which made Yoann Damet an interim head coach. Ron Jans then took over, but has since resigned due to public controversy.
Despite the high turnover in leadership, FC Cincinnati has some positive developments on the horizon. FC Cincinnati’s current home is Nippert Stadium, a historic stadium that opened in 1915 and has experienced over half a dozen renovations since then. Although Nippert is a Cincinnati classic and a good option, FC Cincinnati is moving to a new premier stadium: West End Stadium. With a capacity of 25,500 to 26,500, it is expected to be one of the biggest soccer-specific stadiums in MLS, complete with a grass field, canopy roof, cutting-edge tech features, and specialty seating options.
Soccer fans in Cincy are excited by what is to come with their local team as they come into their own and forge a new path forward. In the meantime, there is some buzz around possible rivals, including the other in-state soccer team, the Columbus Crew. The teams competed against one another in the 2017 U.S. Open Cup. Fans also remember old rivals from the team’s United Soccer League days, including those with Louisville City FC, another former U.S. Open Cup competitor from the past. Do not miss out on the action – follow FC Cincinnati’s progress as they take on opponents throughout the season.
