The “Miami Dolphins” is a professional American football team situated in the metropolitan area of Miami. The team is part of the East Division, which plays in the American Football Conference (AFC) of the National Football League (NFL). The Dolphins are currently headquartered in Davie, Florida. The team plays their home games at the Sun Life Stadium based in the northern area of Miami Gardens.
In the league’s history, the Atlanta Falcons and the Miami Dolphins are considered as the NFL’s oldest franchises in the Deep South since the year 1966. The Dolphins are also the oldest professional American football team to play in the AFC in the region.
The team was founded by Danny Thomas (actor/comedian) and Joe Robbie (attorney/politician). During their first few years, the team used to have their full time trainings and practices in the training camp and practice facilities of Saint Andrew’s School. Saint Andrew School is a private boys lodging prep school, situated in Boca Raton. The Dolphins formally joined the National Football League (NFL) during the AFL-NFL merger in the year 1970.
After two years of playing in the league, the Dolphins finished the NFL’s only perfect season win with a record of 14 wins of its regular season games. The winning records were achieved in both of its NFL’s playoff games and Super Bowl VII. At the time, the Dolphins became the first team from the league to complete a perfect regular season.
The team appeared in the Super Bowl three times and won the Super Bowl VIII. They were also the first team to appear in three frequent Super Bowl championships. During their early years of success, the team was coached by Don Shula, Shula is seen to be one of the most successful head coaches in the history. After Shula’s arrival to the team, he led the Miami Dolphins to 10 playoff appearances, five division titles and Super Bowl XIX.
