In the year 1960, the Vikings formally entered the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team for the 1961 season. The team appeared in the Super Bowls, four times. A bill to build a new stadium for the team was approved in May, 2012. A new stadium for the Vikings will be open most probably in the 2016 season.
