The “New England Patriots” is a professional American Football team situated in the area of Greater Boston. The team is part of the East Division, which plays in the American Football Conference (AFC) of the National Football League (NFL). The team was originally a member of the American Football League (AFL), they entered in the NFL during the AFL-NFL merger in the year 1970.

The team’s original name was Boston Patriots. In the year 1971, the team moved to Foxborough and renamed itself as the New England Patriots. Foxborough is 35 km away from downtown in Boston.

In the league’s history, the Patriots were listed as one of the most successful NFL teams since Bill Belichick (team’s current head coach) arrived as their head coach in the year 2000. In fact, since the year 2000, the team never had a losing season. The team ranked third in the Super Bowl appearances and in last 25 years, they had the most appearances in the Super Bowls.

Prior to Belichick’s arrival in 2000, the team only had a twice appearance in their NFL history. For the team’s record, they had compiled a total of 490 wins in their decades of playing. The Patriots ranked second next to the Dallas Cowboys to have won three Super Bowls Championships in four years. The team also won consecutive Super Bowl championships and ranked as the 8th team have won consecutive Super Bowls.

At the time of Belichick’s contract with the Patriots along with Tom Brandy, the team compiled the longest winning streak in both the playoffs and regular seasons. The team’s rivalry against the New York Jets is seen to be the most bitter rivalry in the league’s history.

The team reached the Super Bowl seven times and made their way to the playoffs four times. After their consecutive success in the Super Bowls, they lost two Super Bowls in the years 2008 and 2012 against the New York Giants.
