Toronto FC Games
Toronto Football Club is one of the three professional soccer clubs in Canada that compete in Major League Soccer (MLS), North America’s most challenging and distinguished soccer organization. Toronto is the capital city and a green, bustling metropolis home to nearly 3 million Ontarians. Toronto FC were the first Canadian team incorporated into MLS, a northern expansion of the Eastern Conference.
Toronto FC was deeply tied to a fan base from the inception of the team. After MLS granted Toronto a team in 2005, owners at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment invited the public to vote for a team name. Clearly, Toronto FC was the top pick, and the nickname “The Reds” quickly followed. Several supporter groups bolster Toronto FC, too, including Inebriatti, Original 109, Kings In The North, Red Patch Boys, Tribal Rhythm Nation, and U-Sector. There are also some independent websites administered by fans, including GoTFC. When Toronto FC goes up against their rivals – including the neighboring Montreal Impacts – fans are glued to the action. Toronto and Montreal have a longstanding sports rivalry, especially in hockey, with the cities’ NHL teams the Canadiens and Maple Leafs being rivals since 1917. MLS just adds another layer to the feud. Another rival are Toronto FC’s Trillium Cup rivals, Columbus Crew.
At the end of the day, it is hard to argue that Toronto FC supporters shouldn’t be proud. Toronto FC has earned several honors and made it to high-level zones of the competition, including the MLS Cup (2017), the Supporters’ Shield (2017), the Canadian Championship (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2017, 2018), and the Eastern Conference Playoffs (2016, 2017, 2019).
Watch the action unfold at BMO Field, where Toronto FC home games are held. BMO Field is an outdoor stadium shared by the Toronto Argonauts from the Canadian Football League. BMO Field is located in Exhibition Place, which is Canada’s largest entertainment venue, coming in at 192 acres in total. BMO Field has received some updates to tailor it to soccer’s needs, which include using natural grass, implementing a heating and draining system, and adding in more seats. Today, around 30,000 people can attend a Toronto FC match at once.
In recent years, Toronto FC have done pretty well on the field, ranking around 4th in the Eastern Conference and around 9th overall. Keep following the action by attending their matches and purchasing tickets today.
