Shrek The Musical
The music for Shrek The Musical was written by Jeanine Tesori, and David Lindsay-Abaire wrote the lyrics and book. It is based on the 2001 DreamWorks movie Shrek and the 1990 book Shrek! by William Steig. After a test run in Seattle, the first Broadway show opened in December 2008 and ran for more than a year, ending in January 2010. After that, in 2010, he went on a tour of the United States. In June 2011, a new West End production opened.
The Story
Shrek the Musical, curses are broken, donkeys and dragons fall in love, monsters win the hearts of beautiful women, and princesses of varying sizes and forms rule the kingdom. Grumpy and gruff, Shrek lives by himself in his swamp. The rest of the world is afraid of him and makes fun of him, and he is happy in his own world.
Suddenly, his life is turned upside down when a group of homeless fairy tale characters, including Pinocchio, the Gingerbread Man, the Three Little Pigs, and others, rush into his swamp. They are running away from the cruel, short-statured Lord Farquaad, who is after them.
Farquaad finds Shrek and offers him a deal that if Shrek saves Princess Fiona, whom Farquaad wants to marry for her crown, Farquaad will relieve him from the fairy tale creatures. Shrek sees the outside world for the first time. He saves Princess Fiona from a dragon that breathes fire.
The scariest part is that he gets to know the princess while getting her back to the evil Farquaad. To the ogre's surprise, Fiona is different from what he had assumed. She made Shrek know what love is. Shrek the Musical is based on a popular children's book and animated movie of the same name. It has beautiful sets, funny puppets, high-energy dance numbers, and laughs every minute.
