Over 26,000 men participate in varsity or club lacrosse. There are now 57 NCAA Division 1 men's lacrosse teams, 32 Division 2 men's lacrosse teams, and 131 Division 3 men's lacrosse teams.

Approximately 5,500 women compete at the varsity or club level at 240 institutions. There are also 83 Division 1 women's lacrosse teams, 37 Division 2 women's lacrosse teams, and 154 Division 3 women's lacrosse teams.

There are around 200 collegiate men's club teams that compete in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association, which includes most major universities in the United States.

Collegiate Lacrosse Schedule

Both the men's and women's NCAA lacrosse schedules take place at the same time. The collegiate lacrosse season runs from February through May, with all teams beginning play in February. In a typical season, most clubs will play 14 to 18 games.

Universities who are members of a league will play both in-conference and out-of-conference matches, while independents will be able to schedule opponents from anywhere over the country. Early May marks the end of the regular lacrosse season.

Conference championships and the national title tournaments in May make up the postseason. The national championship competition for men will have 16 teams, whereas the women's tournament will involve 28. Both tournaments will be single-elimination, with the higher-seeded team's home field hosting the early stages.

The semifinals and finals are held in neutral venues, with a day off in between. To select the best collegiate lacrosse teams in the country, men's and women's championship competitions are held across all NCAA divisions.
