NLL Lacrosse
The National Lacrosse League (NLL) is the leading indoor lacrosse league in North America. The NLL, which was founded in 1986, is the third most popular professional indoor sport in the world, after only the NHL and NBA. The league now has 15 franchises spread throughout the United States and Canada.
The league draws approximately 10,000 people every game and features the top players around the globe.
About Box Lacrosse
Box lacrosse is played with glass and rink boards encircling the participants in the "box." The teams compete on a green dieter grass carpet that covers the whole ice surface.
Two teams of six players compete in box lacrosse - five runners and one goalie. Unlike the other box lacrosse leagues, the National Lacrosse League is played all winter and into the spring.
Box lacrosse varies from field lacrosse in many ways, the most notable being the game's physical nature. Box lacrosse is a more physical sport in which considerable contact is expected. It is very similar to ice hockey and basketball. Box lacrosse is among the safest games despite its high speed, with few to no injuries.
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons are the most popular times for games. The regular season spans from December to April and consists of eighteen games (nine at home, nine away).
Eight teams qualify for the playoffs, with teams progressing through single-elimination matches until two teams advance to the NLL Finals in June, which would be a best-of-three series finale to decide the NLL Cup champion.
