USL announced the joining of River plate Puerto Rico and FC Puerto Rico as part of the united states soccer league in 2011. Both these teams joined as a part of the Caribbean division of the United States Soccer League. As of now, 27 teams are a part of the United States soccer league.
The scheduling for the USL pro league matches changed for the 2015 season. The main reason behind this format change was to accommodate the expansion during 2014-2015.
New group ownership for USL was approved for the USL Championship club Austin Bold FC on December 10, 2021. This approval was provided by the USL Championship. The group or ownership generally consists of Neil Leibman, Bobby Epstein, and Donnie Nelson, but due to the team's reallocation, it will not take part in the USL championship 2022.
