Radio City Music Hall
Set in Art Deco style and pillared by blue, red, and yellow lights, Radio City Music Hall is glamorous, theatrical building in the Rockefeller plaza. Built in the 1930s, all recent renovations have focused on historical preservation so that modern audiences and visitors can enjoy the style and flare of the dazzling venue. Whether you want to stop by for a tour, a show, or both, it really is a sight to see.
Built in 1932, Radio City Music Hall was designed by architect Edward Durell Stone and interior designer Donald Deskey. Samuel Lionel Rothafel guided the team with his expertise on movie palaces, ensuring it had the murals, sculptures, and other artistic accents that featured tip artists of the time. From its opening until 1979, it showed an extravagant variety show, feature films, and stage productions. Although there were debates to convert it into an office space, community efforts, preservation organizations, and commercial groups fought to save Radio City Music Hall. After renovations, it opened to the public, becoming a designated New York City Landmark shortly after in 1985.
Today, Radio City Music Hall can hold up to 5,960 people. It has diversified the range of performances and shows offered.
