Spectrum Center: Events Schedule, Tickets and more...

The Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina is the city’s best large indoor arena. Opened in 2005 and renovated in 2016, it is equipped with the modern amenities event-goers want, including cutting-edge green initiatives, unique Charlotte-inspired artwork, and crowd-adapting layouts...

Designed and built by the city specifically with college basketball in mind, the Spectrum Center is the go-to spot for National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) basketball games. In recent years, it has hosted the 2008, 2011, 2015, and 2018 NCAA Tournaments, the first 16-1 NCAA Tournament in the 64-team system, and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) men’s and women’s basketball tournaments starting in 2006. It seats up to 20,200 spectators for NCAA college basketball games.

In addition to college play, the Spectrum Center is known for its NBA home team: The Charlotte Hornets. As many as 19,077 fans fill the arena during home games. The team, owned by Michael Jordan, has been a tenant since the arena’s opening in 2005.

When basketball is not dominating the arena, the Spectrum Center has the capacity and facilities needed for an array of events. Speakers, singers, plays, comedians, debates, and other large-scale events are regularly part of the off-season itinerary. Recent and upcoming features include Oprah Winfrey, Celine Dion, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play, Toby Mac, Andrea Bocelli, Marc Anthony, Wild n Out, Michael Buble, Jojo Siwa, Tame Impala, and Alabama.

Representatives of the Spectrum Center say it is “inspired by the event, the city, and the fans.” Open-feel staircases, sleek terraces, and spacious walkways create a community-building feel between guests at events. The urban environment of Charlotte is celebrated with exposed brick and steel. The City of Charlotte and the Arts & Science Council worked together with Paul Rousso to emmesh the space with public art and local artistry. Current artwork spotlights the talents of Mike Mandel, J. Paul Sires, Tommie Robinson, and Andrew Leicester. More recently, efforts have been made to make it a more environmentally aware space in energy consumption and waste processing. The arena continues to push towards creating a better Charlotte – one that is not only entertaining people but also building community and protecting the city.

Be a part of Charlotte and visit the Spectrum Center for yourself. Its address is 333 East Trade Street, Charlotte North Carolina 28202, which places it in Uptown, not far from the Charlotte Convention Center, BB&T Ballpark, NASCAR Hall of Fame, and Discovery Place Science.
