The Smith Center: Events Schedule, Tickets and more...
The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is part of the Symphony Park in Downtown Las Vegas. It was designed to have several venues that could accommodate the finest, world-class performances and support local artistry, too. It represents a more refined, measured, elegant approach to entertainment, a contrast to the larger-than-life exuberance of many other Vegas destinations...
Over a decade before opening in 2012, work began on The Smith Center. Raising funds privately and navigating public assistance, locals believed in the idea spearheaded by Myron G. Martin, the President and CEO of the establishment from the start. Beginning in 2007, the design team behind The Smith Center began to travel North America and Europe to study the most exceptional opera houses, performance venues, and opera halls – Musikverein in Vienna, La Scala in Milan, and Palais Garnier in Paris among others. Construction took 32 months and 1.5 million working hours, completed by nearly 3,000 people. Made of steel, limestone, and bells, the marvelously strong structure is designed to be a durable fixture in the ever-changing landscape of Las Vegas.
Visitors who are fond of architecture and history will love a tour of the diverse offerings at the Smith Center. It includes a 17-story bell tower, filled with 47 handmade bronze bells. It also includes a two-acre park inspired by classical composer Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man.” Other enchanting elements include art deco design reminiscent of the Hoover Dam and two separate Jazz Venues. It is a tremendously thoughtful, measured venue offering a spectacular experience to guests of all ages with all interests in the arts. Performances at The Smith Center include Broadway, classical, pop, dance, comedy, jazz, and family shows.
Reynolds Hall – perhaps the most well-known and often-visited venue at the Smith Center – is a unique space, in that 2050 audience members are seated vertically, rather than horizontally, in columns that overlook the stage, carefully planned to avoid any sight obstruction. Recent and upcoming performances include the Nevada Ballet Theatre: Bolero, Travis Tritt, Michael Bolton, Las Vegas Philharmonic, Once On This Island, Kansas (the band), Alvin Ailey American Dancer Theater, Las Vegas Young Artists Orchestra, Mean Girls, Lindsey Buckingham, Boz Scaggs, The Band’s Visit, My Fair Lady, Hamilton, and more. Their website offers descriptions of each of these performances, making it easy for newcomers to the arts to find something that suits their tastes.
