Donnell Rawlings
Donnell Rawlings is a stand-up comedian, radio host, and actor. He has become a household name for being a part of Chappelle's Show, the sketch comedy TV series on Comedy Central, and The Wire, a drama show on HBO.
Born in Washington, D.C., on 6th December 1968, the comedian grew up in Alexandria, Virginia, with his mother by his side. He went to the T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria and was fortunate enough to serve in the United States Air Force.
During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the talented comedian was stationed in South Korea and at Washington, D.C. 's Bolling Air Force Base.
Career and Accomplishments
Rawlings has appeared quite frequently on Chappelle's Show through comedy sketches, and he also hosted the show's third season with fellow comedian Charlie Murphy.
He had a habit of adding "Son!" at the end of every sentence, and his catchphrase appeared at the end of each episode.
Rawlings was also seen in the drama series titled The Corner on HBO. He played the role of Bread and portrayed the character of Damien Lavelle's 'Day-Day' Price on The Wire, an ex-convict who was given the job of a legislative aide and driver for an immoral state senator.
His co-star on the show was Isiah Whitlock, Jr., who was also a part of Chappelle's Show. Rawlings was seen in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 and also had a cameo appearance in We Fly High’s music video by Jim Jones.
He appeared regularly on The Ricki Lake Show and mostly took on the role of a judge during many challenging episodes. In 2007, he made it to the cover of Beyond Race magazine while they were celebrating their one-year anniversary.
Rawlings was a contestant on Reality Bites Back, which was a reality show on Comedy Central. He appeared on D.L. Hughley Breaks the News through comedy sketches. The audience also saw him on Howard Stern on Demand.
He was a part of shows such as Guy Code on MTV2, where he completed two seasons and Hip Hop Squares. Rawlings got the role of a judge on Guy Court, which was a Guy Code spin-off.
Rawlings gave the voice for barber Dez in Soul, a Pixar film that was released in 2020. He appeared during an episode of the Dr. Zoe Today show as well in April of 2014.
