Gerry Dee
Gerard Francis-John Donoghue, popularly known as Gerry Dee, is a stand-up comedian, actor, and game show host from Canada. He is also a writer, producer, and director. Gerry Dee is the host of “Family Feud Canada," which has become very famous for its witty lines.
In addition, he also starred in “Mr. D," a popular sitcom on CBC Television, based on his experiences as a high school teacher and the hilarious encounters he had in his ten years of teaching. His three children were also a part of the cast.
Dee was a good golfer and hockey player in his university days and worked as a physical education teacher for a time. He was also a bus driver for TTC for twenty years in Toronto before turning to comedy.
Rise as Stand-Up Comedian and TV Star
Even before he starred in "Last Comic Standing," Dee became quite famous early in his comedy career, even before he starred in “Last Comic Standing." He also had his special on The Comedy Network. He appeared on "The Nubian Disciples" and in the Montreal leg of the Just for Laughs International Comedy Festival.
Dee performs regularly at comedy clubs, private venues, and festivals. He has also been seen in Yuk Yuks and Trailer Park Boys: The Movie. He also played the role of Wayne Cashman, a Boston Bruins player, in “Canada Russia ’72”, a CBC miniseries.
Dee came third in the fifth season of Last Comic Standing. He also had his segment on the Canadian cable channel, The Score. The segment was called Gerry Dee: Sports Reporter, and the format was a string of funny interviews with notable sports celebrities like Michael Jordan, Cito Gaston, Chris Bosh, Randy Couture, Charles Barkley, and Wayne Gretzky, among others.
Dee also appeared in several television commercials for brands like Nissan, KFC, Wisers, Rogers, and more. He has also made guest appearances in The Hour on CBC and won the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Male Stand-Up Comic.
Dee is also the author of his book Teaching: It’s Harder Than It Looks. The book humorously presents how it is to interact with adolescent students and became a national bestseller.
