The Plot

The act opens with the charismatic protagonist who has given life to the role of a swindler playing a tutor, Harold Hill. He is a con man who sells band instruments and uniforms.

He also makes false promises to the innocent Midwestern residents to teach them music lessons as his band leader. But he is no musician and plans to leave the town, tricking them.

All the town ladies were ecstatic about the 'ladies' dance committee". Marian, a librarian and a piano tutor catches him in his plan to trick the residents but fails to confront him due to her admiration of him.

Ultimately forced by her virtue, she sets out to expose Harold. What happens then is an unmatched tale of love, wit, and drama.

The cast album was acclaimed as the debut winner of the Grammy Award for Best Musical Theatre Album.
