All Balanchine

All Balanchine are ballet forms created by George Balanchine. He was the most influential American ballet choreographer of the 20th century and is considered the father of American ballet.

George Balanchine spent most of his life dedicated to ballet. He created as many as 465 ballets and played a major role in developing neoclassical ballet in the US. Balanchine was the first choreographer to create plotless ballets.

His ballet shows are still performed every year by New York City Ballet. Check out our website for more information! After all, you can’t miss masterpieces live in action.

The Balanchine Method

The Balanchine technique is taught in ballet schools even today. The main focus of the method is to provide more space to ballet dancers in less time. The dances are fast-paced and use unconventional arm movements and placements to align the dance with the music. The dance forms are almost athletic and exude power.

The signature style of ballet posture of the Balanchine method emphasizes strength and longevity. Suki Schore, a famous ballet dancer, said that the posture makes the dancer appear longer, stronger, and bigger.

Balanchine’s neoclassical ballet style focused on the dance movements and their synchronization with music rather than the plot or story of the performance. That’s how he created plotless ballets that are popular even today.

More about George Balanchine

St. Petersburg, Russia, was the birthplace of George Balanchine. He used his experience from the Imperial Ballet School, Broadway, and Hollywood to create new ballet styles. He believed that music and dance blended together and use one as an expression of the other.

Lincoln Kirstein, an American cultural figure and writer, persuaded Balanchine to visit America. The dancer came to the United States in 1934, and the duo founded the School of American Ballet in New York City.

The ballet company later became New York City Ballet in 1948. For the next thirty-five years, he directed the ballet company as its artistic director.

New York City Ballet

The ballet company stages more than eighty shows every year. Some of the leading ballet shows by the company are- The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and Romeo & Juliet. Some of the leading ballet dancers have been associated with New York City Ballet over the decades.

The ballet company has shows in fall, winter, and spring with a few other public programs to attract family audiences and children. Go through the details on our site to know more.
