About the Musical

The award-winning movie stands out with decorated puppets and masks. The Lion King is about Simba and his life journey. It presents the hurdles and difficulties he had to face to be the jungle king.

Most animals are actors in costumes, moving here and there with tools. You can see giraffes balancing on stilts. Characters like hyenas, Timon, Zazu, and Pumbaa are actors with giant puppets or adorned costumes.

You'll be astonished at the skilled artists' effort while performing, dancing to the tunes, and mimicking animals to showcase the jungle theme.

Production of the Mighty

Broadway saw its debut in 1997; the Lion King has run to packed houses since then. Julie Taymor, the talented director and designer of the show, has brought African Jungles to the audience. It is now running on the stage of the massive Minskoff Theatre on Broadway. The gold-leaf carved theatre lobby aligns with the spectacular show.

Simba is played by Brandon A. McCall, Nala by Adrienne Walker, Rafiki by Tshidi Manye, and Mufasa by L. Steven Taylor, and Scar by Stephen Carlile.

Elton John and Tim Rice have given their ever-soothing music to the show and the new songs written by various talented lyrists. Some of them include excellent numbers like "Hakuna Matata," "Can You Feel the Love Tonight," and the famous "Circle of Life."

Awards and Nominations

The Broadway Production team of The Lion King has many awards and nominations. Julie Taymor has consistently won the Outstanding Director award by Tony Awards and Drama Desk Awards, 1998.

Choreographers, costumes and set designers, musicians, and everyone in the crew have been appreciated and awarded.

The vibrant backdrops of the show are eye candy for theatre lovers. This award-winning musical is not the one to be missed at all. So just scroll down, grab the tickets for you and your loved ones, and relive your childhood fantasies.
