The team was originally a member of the American Football League (AFL), they entered in the NFL during the AFL-NFL merger in the year 1970.
The team’s original name was Boston Patriots. In the year 1971, the team moved to Foxborough and renamed itself as the New England Patriots. Foxborough is 35 km away from downtown in Boston.

The team reached the Super Bowl seven times and made their way to the playoffs four times. After their consecutive success in the Super Bowls, they lost two Super Bowls in the years 2008 and 2012 against the New York Giants.
