The “Minnesota Vikings” is a professional American Football team situated in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The team is currently part of the North Division, which plays in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League (NFL). The Vikings were previously part of the NFC’s Central Division and Western Conference Central Division.

In the year 1960, the Vikings formally entered the National Football League (NFL) as an expansion team for the 1961 season. The team appeared in the Super Bowls, four times. A bill to build a new stadium for the team was approved in May, 2012. A new stadium for the Vikings will be open most probably in the 2016 season. Meanwhile, team plays their home games in the TCF Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota.

Team’s History

The team was granted an NFL franchise along with the Bernie Ridder to play for the 1961 season. The “Minnesota Vikings” was the 14th franchise awarded by the National Football League (NFL). For 20 years, the team played at the Metropolitan Stadium in the home of Bloomington. In the year 1961 until 1965, the Vikings had their summer training camp at the Bemidji State University. The team moved their training camp at the Minnesota State University (team’s current training camp), located in Mankato.

For 31 years, the Vikings played their home games at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis. The team left the Humprhey Metrodome after their last game on December 29, 2013. At the time, the team won against the Detroit Lions with a record of 14-13.

The Minnesota Vikings had compiled one of the highest winning percentage in the league’s history since 1961. In 2014, the team won three consecutive games and is one of only six NFL teams to have compiled at least 15 games on a regular season. In the recent times, the team has 12 members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
