Boucar Diouf
CQ, teacher, scientist, poet, writer, comedian, storyteller, and columnist Diouf Boucar was born on 26 May 1965 in Fatick, Senegal. People love Diouf because he has an inspired, honest, and understandable point of view. In his books and monologues, Diouf Boucar writes about immigration and how people from other places fit into Quebec society. As a teacher, Diouf Boucar can make controversial topics less tense by using humor and putting them in a philosophical light.
Early Life
Diouf Boucar was born in Fatick, the old kingdom of Sine. Sine is in the western part of Senegal, and most people there are Serer. Diouf Boucar's father, Amath, had four marriages and many children; thus, Boucar's mom, N'Dew Diouf, helped raise 30 kids. He was a farmer by trade. By working the fields hard, he ensured that his family always had enough to eat. Amath cultivated the soil in order to cultivate peanuts, bush beans, and papyrus.
Comedy and the Media
La Presse and Radio-Canada took notice of Diouf Boucar as his success on stage grew. He started hosting the TV shows La fosse aux lionnes on Radio-Canada and Bazzo on Télé-Québec. Francis Reddy and Diouf Boucar co-hosted the summer show "Des Kiwis et des hommes'' for six years. He discussed the sociology of integration on his radio shows Mon premier Nol au Canada, L'accent c'est les autres, and La nature selon Boucar.
Diouf Boucar feels like he was born again when he moved to Quebec. He has a colorful and poetic view of Quebec society that is all his own. He loves his adopted country but is also very attached to his past and roots. He is funny with the French language and shares with his audiences what his grandfather and nature have taught him.
Science is also an important part of his work. When he does a monologue, he talks about it like he's teaching a science class. So, in his 2013 show Pour Une Raison X ou Y, which was nominated for two Olivier Awards, he explored ideas about the psychology of sexuality casually. During the show, he talked about getting pregnant, giving birth, and how having a child affects a couple's relationship. He also talks about things that happened in his personal life, like the first time he met his wife, who is from the Gaspé Peninsula, and how his son asked him about the mystery of life.
