Bruce Bruce is an American standup comedian and actor best known for his role as a host of ComicView on BET, a Black Entertainment Television that caters to an African-American audience. Bruce’s real name is Bruce Church. He was born on 9th February 1957 in Atlanta, Georgia.

Bruce was a BBQ chef during the initial days of his career. He loved to entertain his customers with his jokes. In fact, he didn’t consider comedy his career for a long time. He liked making people laugh and thought it was something fun to do. However, when he became a salesperson, he met a person who recommended Bruce to take his comic skills seriously and become a comedian. This led to Bruce becoming a standup comedian at their corporate meetings.

Early Life and Career

Bruce’s childhood as an African-American wasn’t easy. He lived at The Bluff, one of the shadiest places in Atlanta. That said, he developed a lighthearted approach to life and emulated his uncles in using comedy to stay positive. Bruce has such a steady style of comedy that makes even his serious acts seem fun.

He is witty and uses improv comedy to entertain his audiences. Though he is more famous for adult comedy, Bruce doesn’t rely on vulgarity to make people laugh. That endears him to new audiences of different age groups.

Bruce’s transition from a salesperson to a standup comedian finally led him to perform a comedy routine at the Comedy Act Theater in Atlanta. He was an instant hit with the crowd. He then got selected by BET during their Coast to Coast tour, where they went to different cities searching for potential local talent and comedians. Later, in 1993, Bruce appeared on Def Comedy Jam and Showtime at the Apollo.

He was also a part of music videos made by Ludacris, and the Ying Yang Twins, Quad City DJ, Outkast, and KEM. Bruce uses real-life incidents to weave his acts for standup comedy. He appeared in the prestigious Just For Laughs Comedy Festival in Montreal and Chicago, along with other comedy fests in the US. He is a regular guest on podcasts and national radio shows. Bruce also goes on comedy tours throughout the US. He acted in various TV shows and films.
