Darrell Hammond

Darrell Hammond is a stand-up comedian, along with being an actor and impressionist. He made a regular appearance on Saturday Night Live, the NBC sketch comedy series, between 1995 and 2009 and has been the announcer of that series since 2014.

When he left Saturday Night Live in 2009, he was the senior-most member in the show's history, at the age of 53. His appearance on SNL has been the most frequent compared to any other member.

Hammond has impersonated more than 107 known celebrities so far, with Bill Clinton being his most famous impression. He replaced Don Pardo as SNL’s new announcer in September of 2014 after Pardo passed away in August of that year.

Work and Achievements

At the age of 32, Hammond moved back to New York City to try his luck as a stand-up comedian one last time. He had been unsuccessful in his efforts for seven years and had also survived two failed auditions for Saturday Night Live.

In 1995, he got spotted by an SNL producer as he was making a Bill Clinton impression. Hammond was welcomed into the SNL family after going through an exclusive audition for Lorne Micheals, the creator, and executive producer. He performed for 14 long seasons.

Hammond holds the record for performing the second most impressions done by a cast member and also for being the one to say the catchphrase, “Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!” the most number of times.

He has done impressions on celebrities such as Donald Trump, Al Gore, Regis Philbin, John McCain, Phil McGraw, Ted Koppel, Phil Donahue, and John Travolta. His impression of Bill Clinton has occurred in 87 sketches throughout Saturday Night Live.

Hammond makes frequent appearances on The Howard Stern Show and also has his own comedy special on Comedy Central.

2007 saw him making his debut on Broadway through the 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, where he portrayed the role of Douglas Panch, the Vice Principal.

After getting back to Los Angeles in the year 2017, he has been seen in a couple of episodes of At Home with Amy Sedaris and Criminal Minds. Hammond has also been a guest star on Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
