Before becoming a stand-up comedian, he worked as a contractor and also played professional baseball for the Detroit Tigers. The comedian never imagined that he would ever be able to make a living out of his humorous side.
When asked to recall the initial days of his career, Curry says that he always enjoyed going for open mic nights at comedy clubs.
During one such visit, the club ran out of people to go up on the stage. At that moment, he volunteered to perform and knew instantly that this was what he wanted to do with his life.
Curry was given the Comedian of the Year title when he won the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition. The competition had previously been won by Jamie Foxx, D.L. Hughley, Nick Cannon, Mike Epps, and many others. He now hosts the same competition.
The comedian says that his inspirations, while he was just starting out in his comedy career, were Richard Pryor and Dick Gregory. However, he admits that the one person who helped him out the most was his fellow comedian and buddy, George Wallace.
