Gary Gulman

American stand-up comic Gary Gulman was born on July 17, 1970. He made it to the final round in the second and third seasons of the NBC talent show Last Comic Standing. In 2005, he put out Conversations With Inanimate Objects, his first CD.

Early life

Gary Gulman was born in Peabody, Massachusetts. His parents were Barbara and Philip Gulman. He was raised in a Jewish family and is the youngest of three brothers. Gulman's parents split up when he was only two years old, and his family had trouble making ends meet.

Gulman said he was a sensitive child who liked to make his friends laugh, draw, paint, and play basketball. He went to high school at Peabody Veterans Memorial. He was asked to play football after his junior year of high school.

Career in Comedy

Gulman's comedy is based on making silly comments about things that happen every day. He is one of only a few comedians who has been on every major late-night comedy show on TV.

Gulman started doing open mics in the Boston area in 1993. Then, early in 1999, Gulman began doing stand-up comedy full-time. He moved from Peabody, where he grew up, to Los Angeles, where he had gotten deals to develop his career.

In 1999, Gulman did his first stand-up set late at night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He played on the Late Show with David Letterman the following year.

Gary Gulman had his one-hour special on Comedy Central on November 25, 2006. It was called Gary Gulman: Boyish Man. His second Comedy Central special, "In This Economy?," came out on December 8, 2012. It was followed by "It's About Time'' on Netflix in 2016 and "The Great Depresh" on HBO in 2019.

After Last Comic Standing, Gulman released Conversations with Inanimate Objects, his first comedy album. Then, in 2006, he was in the first episode of Dane Cook's documentary Tourgasm, shown on HBO. He was on the show with comedians Dane Cook, Jay Davis, and Robert Kelly.

He played on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in January 2017. In May 2017, he was hospitalized again because he was depressed.

Gulman was on Conan three times (2014, 2015, 2016). The last set, which talked about a fake documentary about how US states got their two-letter abbreviations, went viral.

Gulman has been giving aspiring comedians advice daily on his Twitter feed since January 1, 2019. He was on both Conan and Late Night with Seth Meyers in the fall of 2019.
