After opening for famed artists and performing in Black Country Communion, Bloodline, and Rock Candy Funk Party, Joe Bonamassa is still playing concerts for fans. For more insights into Bonamassa’s phenomenal life and career, and information on his latest tours, read below.
From an early age, Bonamassa knew he wanted to be on stage. Born in 1977, he admired musical legends of the time: Stevie Ray Vaugh, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. Young Joe dreamed of performing alongside them. It is rumored that he learned how to play blues before he learned how to drive, even. He even opened for B.B. King (1925-2015)—the legendary blues powerhouse whose work defined the genre—at the age of eight. Regularly performing at local venues near his home in upstate New York, Bonamassa’s devotion to music was undeniable.
Bonamassa has always thrived when collaborating with other musicians. Listeners might recognize his work from his collaborations with Erin Davis (son of Miles Davis), Berry Oakley, Jr. (son of the Allman Brothers bassist Berry Oakley), Brad Whitford (of Aerosmith), Waylon Krieger (son of The Doors guitarist Robby Krieger), Jethro Tull, Paul Jones, and countless others, including some of his childhood favorites like Eric Clapton.
Although Bonamassa has made his childhood dreams a reality, his style and skills have certainly developed over time. His work is still inspired by some old favorites, but Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page are inspirations, too. His guitar playing brings out the tones of notes in a driving, powerful, but clear way, speaking to his ability generate a mood but also emphasize the quality of instrumentation. It is no wonder that his technique is often described as some of the most impressive in modern blues. His extensive knowledge and application of high-quality gear contributes to his signature style, too. With this background, he is able to mesh into straight up blues to big band to rock with his diverse skillset, meaning that fans from all genres will find something to appreciate about his work.
One of the most incredible things about Bonamassa is his output as a musician. In addition to Bonamassa’s impressive work with other artists, he has hit the studio with gusto. Since recording, he has put out over an album a year. In 2018 alone, he released three albums: Black Coffee, British Blues Explosion, and Redemption. Touring virtually every album he has released, Bonamassa is constantly on the road. For ticket information on Bonamassa’s tour locations, dates, and prices, check out this website.
