Patton Oswalt

Patton Oswalt is a stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. Born on 27th January 1969 in Portsmouth, Virginia, he spent the early years of his life in Ohio, Tustin, and Sterling in Virginia.

He graduated from Broad Run High School in 1987 and then got a degree in English from The College of William & Mary. Oswalt has a younger brother named Matt Oswalt, who is famous for writing and being a part of Puddin,' a web series on YouTube.

Career and Achievements

In July 1988, Oswalt began to do stand-up comedy. He wrote for MADtv, after which he starred in his HBO comedy special, released in 1996. As a result of this, he ended up receiving several roles in movies and TV shows. His debut film, Down Periscope, was released in 1996.

Oswalt's debut on television happened with an episode on Seinfeld titled The Couch. The TV role he was associated with for a long time was that of the character named Spence Olchin on the sitcom, The King of Queens.

He gave the voice for the lead character of Remy in the Pixar movie, Ratatouille, which bagged the Academy Award in 2007. Oswalt appeared on the Comedy Central Roast of William Shatner and the Comedy Central Roast of Flavor Flav.

His memoir titled Silver Screen Fiend: Learning About Life from an Addiction to Film came out in 2015 and was published by Simon & Schuster. Oswalt’s stand-up comedy covers a wide range of topics, such as atheism, materialism, religion, foreign policies, and pop culture.

In February of 2009, he completed the recording of his third comedy album, the venue for which was the Lisner Auditorium at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Its title was Patton Oswalt: My Weakness Is Strong was released on Comedy Central on 23rd August 2009.

His comedy special, Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time, was released on 6th April 2014 on Comedy Central and was also available to be bought in a CD and DVD format two days later. Talking for Clapping, another comedy special of his, came out on Netflix on 22nd April 2016.

This particular special won him the Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album and also a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Special. Another one of his comedy specials, titled Annihilation came out on Netflix in October 2017.

Oswalt was a part of a Caesars Sportsbook ad campaign in 2021, portraying a character who was named Carl.
