Seattle Mariners Games

Seattle, Washington has several professional sports teams, including NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, MLS’s Seattle Sounders FC, WNBA’s Seattle Storm, NWSL’s OL Reign, MLR’s Seattle Seawolves, and XFL’s Seattle Dragons. There is even a NHL team on its way to the Emerald City. But for baseball fans, there is only one team to follow: The Seattle Mariners.

When the Seattle Mariners joined MLB as an expansion franchise in 1977, the team became part of the American League’s West Division. The team’s brand is derived from the prominent marine culture of Seattle, from the name the “Mariners”, to the team’s colors, which are navy blue, northwest green, and silver.

Compared to other teams in MLB, the Seattle Mariners had a slow, sad start. It took over a decade to strike a winning balance in the team. It was not until 1995 that the Mariners were awarded their first ever division championship. That win against the New York Yankees may have saved the team from being pulled from Seattle, so it became a pivotal moment in the city’s baseball culture. In the years after that, the Mariners further improved their game, winning 116 games in 2011, which broke AL’s record for most wins in a single season, and tied with the Chicago Cubs’ 1906 record in MLB for most wins in a single season.

All but six MLB teams have won a World Series Championships. Although the Mariners are one of those six, the team’s ability to rapidly improve and break records is enough to give any Mariners fan hope for the upcoming season. Regardless of the scores, both old fans and newcomers to the baseball scene in Seattle will find something to appreciate about the games. Baseball in Seattle is loaded with traditions – from lucky “rally fries” sent to fans from field players to “Buhner Buzz Cut Night” where fans who shave their heads before the game receive a free game ticket and t-shirt. Although some traditions come and go, there is something special about the Mariners.

Those who have been with the Seattle Mariners from the team’s start will remember Kingdome, officially called the King County Multipurpose Domed Stadium. It opened in 1976, serving as the home of the Seattle Seahawks, Seattle SuperSonics, and Seattle Mariners. Today, the team play home games at T-Mobile Park, formerly called Safeco Field. T-Mobile Park is located right in Seattle nearly Stadium Station and King Street Station. It can accommodate nearly 50,000 patrons. To be a part of the game day action, purchase tickets today.
