Sistas: The Musical
The current music industry is ruled by people of diverse races and ethnicity. However, this wasn't the case a few decades back. Especially if a female artist of color tried to make it big in the music industry, the challenge was more extensive and complex.
Thankfully, we have icons like Beyonce and groups like Little Mix breaking the gender and race barrier through their music. Sistas, the musical celebrates such black singers and their music journey and how they made it this far.
As the name suggests, the off-Broadway production celebrates the sisterhood of the women who inspire new talents like Ariana, Billie, and so much more. Watch this beautiful show soon.
Music Says It All
Directed by the very talented Kenneth Ferrone, the show is a show within itself. It has costumes beyond the stage productions, music that forces you to sing along, and the cultural history and representation our Sistas genuinely need. We have characters like Heather, Roberta, Simone, and many more who bring out the musical sensation and power-packed performers on stage.
The play, in a way, is an ode to singers and female performers. Music director Zachary Ryan and costume designer Tricia Barsamian ensure that we get the same glam and glitz of the showbiz on the stage of the St. Luke's Theater.
It has been successfully running with the star cast of Jenifer Fouche, Amy Goldberger, April Nixon, Tracy Conyer Lee, and others. Each of these women represents the genre and form of music the director wants to paint on the stage.
Overall, the music drives people inside the theater, giving a somewhat true mirror into the works of artists that were once a name among millions.
Representation and Fun: All in One
The plot consists of the musically gifted sisters coming together to honor their dead grandmother's legacy. They perform the songs she carefully selected and held close to her heart.
So, apart from the representation, the show deals with the family ties of such artists. As for the rest, you will have to see the performances to know what the show truly has. Watch drama and emotions wrapped in a colorful bundle of music. See show timings below and book now to get the best seats in the house.
